About the Role
You will perform three-dimensional boundary-plasma simulations to optimize radiofrequency power coupling, target conditions, and device performance. You will integrate impurity-transport models, conduct predictive modeling for target geometries, validate results against experimental data, collaborate with scientific specialists, and publish and present research results.
Requirements
- PhD in Plasma Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field completed within the last 5 years, or expected by June 30, 2027
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification card
- Pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation
Responsibilities
- Perform three-dimensional boundary-plasma simulations of MPEX
- Integrate boundary-plasma simulations with impurity-transport models
- Perform predictive modeling for new MPEX target geometries
- Validate simulation results against experimental data and reduce uncertainty in predictions
- Work with diagnosticians, theorists, applied mathematicians, and experimental plasma physicists
- Report research results in peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences
