About the Role

You provide outpatient stem cell transplant care as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. You assess patients, perform examinations, diagnose and manage health problems, order and interpret tests, prescribe treatments, educate patients and families, document care, collaborate with physicians, mentor learners, and participate in research and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school or college of nursing or an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licenses in Illinois, or current Physician Assistant license in Illinois
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by an approved national certifying body, where applicable
  • Credentialing and privileging through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
  • Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Hematology or oncology background preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient health appraisals
  • Take health histories and perform physical examinations
  • Provide direct clinical care
  • Prescribe or order medications and therapies
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures
  • Evaluate patients’ need for further health care
  • Teach patients and families
  • Document care and education in medical records
  • Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate
  • Consult with other disciplines in areas of expertise
  • Apply research-based knowledge in clinical decision-making
  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education
  • Advocate for patients and families
  • Mentor and precept students
  • Provide formal education to internal and external groups
  • Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives
