About the Role
You will design physical and optical connectivity for data centers, backbone routes, and customer interconnects. You will translate requirements into capacity and route plans, work with carriers and suppliers, prepare engineering design packages, and resolve design questions during delivery.
Requirements
- Experience designing carrier, cloud, or data-center connectivity through delivery
- Practical knowledge of dark fiber, wavelength services, optical transport, and internet interconnection
- Ability to assess route diversity, equipment dependencies, and capacity needs
- Experience working with carrier engineers, colocation providers, or equipment suppliers
- Ability to compare technical fit, delivery risk, and total cost across supplier options
- Ability to produce clear design documentation
Responsibilities
- Develop physical and optical connectivity designs for data centers, points of presence, backbone routes, and customer interconnects
- Translate requirements into routes, capacity plans, equipment needs, and acceptance criteria
- Compare dark fiber, wavelength, transit, and interconnection options
- Validate route diversity and identify physical dependencies
- Work with carrier engineers to develop routes and resolve constraints
- Evaluate suppliers, technical proposals, and budgetary quotes
- Provide Supply Chain with technical scope, supplier assumptions, and unresolved risks
- Produce design packages for Network Engineering approval
- Support delivery schedules, dependencies, acceptance requirements, and design revisions
- Collaborate on carrier access, backbone capacity, future expansion, reusable designs, and standards
