About the Role
You will own the system design basis for islanded grids, including voltage levels, topology, grounding, redundancy, and repeatable power blocks. You will develop grid codes and equipment specifications, build and validate system models and studies, set stability and protection philosophies, guide energization decisions, incorporate field findings into designs, and hire specialist engineers.
Requirements
- Experience delivering an islanded or weak-grid power system of at least 100 MW
- Experience building EMT and RMS power-system models
- Experience producing load-flow, short-circuit, and stability studies
- Experience with grid-forming inverter control and inverter-dominated protection
- Experience owning a system design basis and evaluating vendor or EPC studies
- Experience setting technical standards for OEMs and EPCs
- Experience designing repeatable systems and managing design freezes
- Experience working in the field with installers and operators
- ERCOT
- HV substation design
- Professional Engineer license
- Toyota Production System
- lean practice
- load shedding
- dispatch
- utility control room
- switching order design
Responsibilities
- Own the islanded-grid system design basis and repeatable block design
- Standardize designs across sites and control late design changes
- Write internal grid codes and electrical equipment specifications
- Evaluate technical bids and conformance evidence
- Build the model of record and lead generation, BESS, reserve, load-flow, short-circuit, and stability studies
- Set stability, protection, reserve, and load-shedding philosophies
- Set safe energization phasing rules and prioritize required studies
- Incorporate field and commissioning findings into design revisions
- Hire protection, studies, and operations specialists
