About the Role
You will lead the EEA legal function and provide strategic legal and regulatory guidance across the region. You will support licensing and expansion efforts, advise on product, digital-asset, governance, contract, compliance, and marketing matters, manage lawyers, and represent the legal function at relevant Board and committee meetings. You will spend at least 50% of your time in the Malta office.
Requirements
- Law degree from a top-tier law school
- Qualification to practice law in the EEA
- 14+ years of legal experience at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal team
- Experience with cryptocurrency, digital assets, or financial services
- Experience advising on digital asset and blockchain legal issues
- Understanding of financial services, digital asset, EEA, marketing, advertising, and contract law
- Experience working with EU regulators and maintaining EU financial services or crypto exchange licenses
- Leadership and communication skills
- Experience with cross-jurisdictional matters and global legal teams
Responsibilities
- Lead the EEA legal function
- Provide strategic legal and regulatory guidance
- Support EEA business expansion, licensing, and UK market efforts
- Advise on product development, regulatory matters, intellectual property, governance, token listings, contracts, compliance, sales, partnerships, and marketing
- Analyze legal risks of digital assets and manage the legal component of new asset reviews
- Manage lawyers covering the EEA
- Collaborate with product and business development functions
- Manage legal requests and advise on legal risk
- Represent the legal function at Board and committee meetings
