About the Role

Partner directly with the founder to evolve a live beta into a full product launch. Own technical decisions across the codebase, backend infrastructure, health intelligence engine, AI-powered features, data pipelines, security, compliance, and engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping complex products.
  • Strong backend and infrastructure expertise, including system architecture, APIs, databases, and scalable systems.
  • Experience with Python, Node.js, or similar languages.
  • Experience with health data, EHR systems, wearable APIs, lab data, or HL7/FHIR standards.
  • Data pipeline and ETL experience ingesting, transforming, and normalizing multiple data sources.
  • Hands-on proficiency with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • AI/ML implementation experience with recommendation systems, NLP, conversational AI, or predictive models.
  • Experience with LLMs and prompt engineering.
  • Understanding of HIPAA requirements and sensitive health-data protection.
  • Comfort with AI-native development workflows using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub.
  • Experience in healthcare technology and health-data privacy regulations.
  • Startup experience, ownership, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Bonus: consumer or clinical health products, LOINC, wearable integrations, mobile development, or founding-engineer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the live beta product and improve its speed, reliability, and capabilities.
  • Assess the existing architecture, close gaps, and build on the current foundation.
  • Evolve backend infrastructure, APIs, and data models powering personalized health insights.
  • Design systems that synthesize lab results, wearable data, symptoms, and medical history.
  • Build and expand ETL pipelines integrating lab providers, wearables, medical records, and user-entered data.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Implement conversational AI health check-ins, treatment recommendations, and predictive models.
  • Use Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, and other AI-assisted development tools.
  • Implement encryption, access controls, audit logging, and security best practices.
  • Mentor additional engineers and establish engineering culture, practices, and standards.
