About the Role

You'll lead a team of engineers, helping them grow while keeping the team healthy and productive. You'll run regular 1-1s and performance reviews, give honest feedback, and help each person pursue their career goals. You'll own hiring for your team and build onboarding plans that set new starters up for success. You'll monitor team happiness and engagement, refine processes and ways of working, and remove friction using data where you can. You'll actively participate in product and technical OKR-setting cycles, bringing your team's perspective into roadmap conversations, and partner closely with Tech Leads to ensure your team is set up to hit its goals. You'll stay close enough to the work to represent your team confidently across the business and keep leadership informed on progress and blockers.

Requirements

  • 2-6 years of experience managing engineers
  • Technical background in the relevant track (Platform and DevOps)
  • Ability to build trust quickly and lead through empowerment rather than control
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and motivated by building structure around it
  • Uses data to understand what's working and what isn't
  • Honest, direct, and cares deeply about the people they work with
  • Celebrates failure as a learning opportunity and shares learnings openly

Responsibilities

  • Run regular 1-1s and performance reviews, giving personalised, honest feedback
  • Understand each person's career goals and actively help them pursue them
  • Build a healthy team culture where expectations are clear and people feel safe
  • Own hiring for the team, from identifying gaps through to making decisions
  • Build onboarding plans that set new starters up properly
  • Own the health of the team, monitoring individual happiness and engagement
  • Continuously refine team processes and ways of working
  • Identify and remove friction slowing teams down, using data where possible
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across engineering
  • Participate actively in product and technical OKR-setting cycles
  • Partner closely with Tech Leads to ensure teams hit their goals
  • Represent teams confidently across the business and keep leadership informed on progress and blockers
