Partnership on AI (PAI) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit partnership focused on ensuring AI advances positive outcomes for people and society. It convenes diverse stakeholders, conducts research, develops actionable responsible-AI guidance, informs public policy, and advances public understanding.

About the Role
You will lead editorial and global communications strategy for research, frameworks, recommendations, and technical outputs. You will develop messaging and content, guide dissemination and audience engagement, build media relationships, secure earned-media opportunities, support executive visibility, manage communications partners, and lead communications staff.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in editorial leadership, strategic communications, journalism, public affairs, or policy communications.
- 5+ years of team leadership experience.
- Exceptional editorial judgment and experience translating complex research, governance, or technical topics into narratives for diverse audiences.
- Experience developing communications and dissemination strategies for research, frameworks, recommendations, and thought leadership.
- Experience engaging global stakeholder audiences.
- Background in earned media, executive communications, thought leadership, and media relationship-building.
- Familiarity with international policy, governance, standards development, or regulatory environments.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage competing priorities, and use audience insights and performance metrics.
- Authorization to work in the country where you will be based.
Responsibilities
- Provide editorial oversight and strategic communications guidance for frameworks, recommendations, guidance documents, reports, and technical outputs.
- Ensure publications are accessible, audience-centered, and positioned for practical adoption.
- Develop dissemination and engagement strategies for major outputs.
- Develop executive briefs, speeches, keynote materials, talking points, strategic messaging documents, press materials, and external communications assets.
- Lead the development and execution of international communications strategy.
- Develop messaging frameworks and strategic narratives.
- Translate technical, policy, and research outputs into communications tailored to key stakeholders.
- Shape organizational positioning, executive communications, and thought leadership strategies.
- Identify emerging global policy, regulatory, and governance conversations.
- Oversee an editorial and communications calendar aligned to global policy moments, standards initiatives, conferences, and publication launches.
- Build relationships with journalists, editors, conference organizers, policy influencers, and international media outlets.
- Drive earned-media opportunities and executive thought-leadership placements.
- Manage external PR agencies and communications partners.
- Develop rapid-response communications strategies.
- Monitor media trends and identify opportunities for expert commentary.
- Lead the communications team, including the Head of Digital Communications & Marketing and Communications Lead.
