About the Role
You will lead the commissioning and quality assurance programs for data center development projects. You will define testing, quality, documentation, and handover standards; oversee project execution; manage internal and third-party resources; resolve delivery risks; and report readiness and performance to executive and customer audiences.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in commissioning, quality assurance, or critical systems engineering
- At least 7 years of experience in data center or mission-critical facility environments
- Experience owning commissioning and quality assurance functions
- Experience leading and developing commissioning programs on hyperscale or colocation projects
- Experience managing third-party commissioning agents, inspection firms, and multi-discipline test teams across concurrent projects in multiple geographies
- Strong knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical systems
- Familiarity with construction quality requirements for civil, structural, and architectural scopes
- Proficiency with commissioning documentation and issue-tracking platforms
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AISC Quality Certification, and ACI inspection standards
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC9.9, and NFPA 70/75/76
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously improve the commissioning program, including plans, test scripts, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements
- Establish commissioning standards and procedures for pre-functional, functional performance, integrated systems, and operational acceptance testing
- Build and maintain reusable commissioning test scripts, checklists, issue logs, and turnover documentation templates
- Establish and lead the end-to-end QA/QC program across design, procurement, and construction
- Develop quality management plan frameworks, including inspection and test plans, hold points, witness points, and documentation requirements
- Establish field inspection protocols and audit schedules and oversee quality audits across active job sites
- Lead commissioning planning and execution directly or through third-party commissioning agents
- Review drawings and specifications during design to identify commissionability, coordination, and testability issues
- Develop and manage project-specific commissioning schedules and flag critical-path risks
- Chair commissioning and QA coordination meetings and drive issue resolution
- Lead or oversee Level 4 and Level 5 integrated systems testing
- Develop and enforce a lessons-learned process for commissioning findings, QA audits, and NCRs
- Publish quality and commissioning performance reports for executive leadership
- Own the commissioning-to-operations handover process, including documentation, as-built verification, O&M manuals, and operator training coordination
- Coordinate witness testing with customers, auditors, and certification bodies
- Build, mentor, and lead an internal commissioning and QA team
- Manage third-party commissioning agents, specialty testing vendors, and inspection firms
- Ensure commissioning and QA requirements are defined in contractor and vendor contracts
- Present program status, risks, and delivery readiness reports to executive leadership and customers
