About the Role
You will be part of the Finance team and take ownership of core tasks across corporate income tax, VAT, payroll tax, and transfer pricing. You will ensure the accurate and timely preparation of tax filings and returns, help build robust processes and controls, and actively contribute to the ongoing development of the Tax Compliance Management System (TCMS). You will work closely with Accounting, Legal, the Head of Corporate Taxes, and external advisers, and act as the first point of contact for tax-related questions in day-to-day business. As Upvest expands across Europe and sets up new entities and branches abroad, you will support this journey from a tax perspective by assessing tax implications of new country and entity structures and coordinating with local advisers.
Requirements
- Several years of relevant experience in tax advisory, a corporate tax department, or audit with a focus on tax
- Solid knowledge of German tax law (e.g. AO, EStG, KStG, UStG) and a basic understanding of transfer pricing regulations
- Experience preparing tax returns and filings, and in dealing with tax authorities
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. Oracle NetSuite) is a plus; strong Excel skills are required
- Fluent German and very good English communication skills, including the ability to explain complex topics clearly
- A strong sense of ownership and a structured, detail-oriented way of working
- An interest in brokerage, trading, and wealth management, along with a good understanding of financial markets
Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit VAT pre-notifications, corporate income tax and trade tax returns, and other tax filings on time
- Contribute to preparing and maintaining transfer pricing documentation
- Assess and support payroll tax matters in close coordination with the People team
- Develop and maintain the Tax Compliance Management System (TCMS) and related work instructions
- Establish robust internal controls for tax processes and monitor them on an ongoing basis
- Work closely with the Accounting team on tax matters during monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
- Contribute to cross-functional projects that align tax compliance with accounting and business goals
- Support the tax assessment and structuring involved in setting up new entities and branches abroad, including choice of legal form, registration requirements, and permanent establishment risks
- Coordinate local tax advisers in the relevant countries and ensure new entities are set up correctly from a tax perspective
