About the Role
You own end-to-end architecture for commercial systems, lead design reviews and engineering standards, implement high-risk features across Vue and TypeScript services, set quality and observability standards, lead incident response, mentor engineers, partner on technical planning, maintain documentation, and interview candidates.
Requirements
- 7+ years building and running production systems
- At least 2 years as a tech lead, staff engineer, or equivalent technical anchor
- Full-stack experience across frontend and backend systems
- Deep AWS experience with serverless and event-driven architecture
- Expert-level TypeScript and solid Vue 3 experience or ability to learn it quickly
- Experience leading architecture and adopting engineering standards
- Experience improving existing codebases through migration, deprecation, and debt reduction
- Experience owning on-call responsibilities and leading incidents
- Strong understanding of API design, REST conventions, versioning, and client-server contracts
- Excellent written communication
- Mentorship ability
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of Commercial Pod systems
- Lead the design document process
- Represent Commercial in the engineering standards programme
- Drive adoption of engineering standards inside the pod
- Make and document architectural trade-offs
- Implement high-risk production features across frontend and backend services
- Set engineering quality standards through code and reviews
- Own the production health of Commercial services
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis
- Participate in the technical lead development support rota
- Mentor engineers
- Partner with the Product Manager on technical planning
- Run and encourage knowledge sharing sessions
- Maintain technical documentation
- Interview candidates
