About the Role

You will ship user-facing AI features for Gusto Retirement, implementing language-model-powered experiences and integrating LLMs through prompting, tool loops, evaluation, and monitoring. You will make pragmatic architecture decisions, collaborate with product and design, write reliable code, and integrate with existing systems.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production products or platforms
  • Hands-on experience implementing LLM-powered features such as RAG flows, agents, tool loops, or workflow automation
  • Strong engineering skills in services, APIs, and data flows
  • Experience contributing to team execution including sprints, Jira, scoping, and cross-functional coordination
  • Ability to communicate with product, design, and engineering teams
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable language
  • Experience with React or a comparable library

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship production features using large language models
  • Implement and integrate LLMs through prompting, tool loops, evaluation, and monitoring
  • Make architecture decisions and resolve technical risks
  • Partner with product and design to shape and iterate on experiences
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate existing systems
  • Write clear, reliable, well-tested code
