About the Role

You act as the primary security partner for the Walrus team, providing architectural guidance and embedding security practices throughout the development lifecycle from the design phase. You lead security assessments, identify systemic risks, create remediation plans for complex architectural challenges, and drive security-by-design practices. You use AI-driven tools and automation to identify and remediate security issues, provide strategic oversight across infrastructure and product security, collaborate with engineering leadership on security priorities, and mentor engineers while setting technical direction and security standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of industry experience in security engineering
• Experience operating at a Staff E6 level or equivalent
• Extensive security generalist experience across infrastructure, application, and cryptographic security
• Proficiency in building, deploying, and managing automated security tooling
• Experience using AI/ML or advanced static and dynamic analysis to improve security outcomes at scale
• Expertise collaborating with engineering teams during the design phase to identify and mitigate high-risk design flaws
• Excellent communication skills
• Technical understanding of decentralized storage, distributed systems, or the Web3 stack
• Experience leading security-focused transformations or implementing security-by-design frameworks
• Ability to balance hands-on security work with strategic planning and leadership

Responsibilities

• Lead security assessments for new Walrus features
• Contribute to security initiatives across the broader ecosystem
• Identify systemic risks and provide remediation plans for complex architectural challenges
• Drive security-by-design practices before code is written
• Use AI-driven tools and automation to identify and remediate security issues
• Provide strategic oversight on infrastructure and product security issues
• Collaborate with engineering leadership to prioritize security roadmap items
• Mentor senior and junior engineers
• Set technical direction for security standards and establish engineering best practices
