About the Role
You will prepare, execute, and manage environmental testing for electronic flight hardware. You will define test plans, design fixtures in CAD, instrument hardware, configure data acquisition, operate environmental test equipment, investigate failures, and report results. You will maintain the test lab, manage consumables and equipment, coordinate external laboratories, and improve environmental testing practices.
Requirements
- 2+ years of environmental testing experience, including temperature cycling, vibration, HALT, and HASS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Reliability Engineering
- CAD modeling proficiency with ANSYS SpaceClaim, NX, or SolidWorks
- Knowledge of data acquisition equipment and instrumentation
- Familiarity with electronics, PCBs, PCBAs, electronic components, and moving mechanical assemblies
- Knowledge of failure mechanisms including solder fatigue, intermetallic growth, conductive anodic filaments, tin whiskers, electromigration, and corrosion
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams from product concept through production
- Technical project management experience
- Familiarity with IPC, JEDEC, MIL, and ASTM test standards
Responsibilities
- Operate and improve an environmental test lab for electronics
- Develop lab procedures for equipment use, test setup and teardown, data acquisition, and reporting
- Perform thermal cycling, temperature-humidity, HALT, HASS, vibration, and shock testing
- Develop test plans and automate data acquisition
- Document test results and manage tests
- Manage procurement and maintenance of lab consumables
- Maintain laboratory equipment, organization, and safety
- Coordinate environmental testing with external laboratories
- Educate stakeholders on environmental test and design-for-test practices
- Stay current with environmental testing methods and equipment
