About the Role
You will own production tooling from concept through design, analysis, release, fabrication, and prove-out. You will translate product requirements into tooling, create design packages, validate designs, manage fabrication and issue resolution, and support first-article and shop-floor activities.
Requirements
- 7+ years of tooling design, mechanical design, or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
- Prototype manufacturing experience in a startup or rapid-growth environment.
- Knowledge of machining, composites, avionics, or assembly manufacturing processes.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Responsibilities
- Translate GD&T, key characteristics, and CTQs into tooling requirements.
- Design assembly jigs, fixtures, molds, gauges, carts, and protective tooling.
- Conduct FEA and hand calculations for stiffness, clamp loads, safety factors, and ergonomics.
- Generate tool design packages with models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, and safety information.
- Lead design reviews and human-factors evaluations.
- Manage tool fabrication, NCR/ECR resolution, and shop-floor prove-out.
- Develop tool setup, care, preventive-maintenance, and inspection instructions.
- Support first-article activities, alignment, gage strategy, and dimensional validation.
