About the Role
You will design and deliver end-to-end card-platform features, including tokenization, sensitive card-data handling, transaction enrichment, and settlement workflows. You will build integrations with card issuers and payment processors, architect secure and scalable services, own projects from inception through delivery, review code, mentor colleagues, and participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer, preferably in FinTech or payments
- Expertise in Java and Spring Boot
- Experience building and maintaining APIs and services in a microservices architecture
- Strong understanding of card payments, issuing, or transaction processing
- Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tooling
- Ability to self-direct work from well-scoped tasks to multi-sprint initiatives
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience using code review for mentoring and raising team-wide standards
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end card platform features, including tokenization, sensitive card-data handling, transaction enrichment, and settlement workflows
- Build and maintain integrations with card issuers and payment processors
- Architect scalable, secure, PCI-compliant systems spanning multiple services
- Own features and projects from inception to completion
- Break down complex domains into deliverable work items
- Drive cross-team technical initiatives around shared libraries, patterns, and infrastructure
- Review code and provide constructive, in-depth feedback
- Mentor teammates and set quality standards
- Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota
