Senior Software Engineer, Backend & API Integrations

About the Role

You will be embedded between your engineering team and a strategic financial partner to own and deliver a deep, bidirectional technical integration between platforms. You will design and build integration systems, implement APIs and webhooks, translate partner requirements into engineering work, and ensure the integration runs reliably in production. You will monitor production health, lead incident response, maintain integration documentation and test suites, and coordinate with other engineering stakeholders to deliver integration dependencies.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of backend software engineering experience
  • Proven experience building and operating production-grade API integrations with external partners or third-party systems
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven architecture, idempotency, retry logic, and error handling
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries with partner or client engineering teams
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and translate loosely defined requirements into concrete engineering solutions
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills able to represent technical decisions to engineering and business stakeholders
  • Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, and AWS; strong engineering fundamentals valued
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, OpenTelemetry) is beneficial
  • Experience in fintech, payments, crypto, settlement, or reconciliation systems is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end technical integrations between the company and partner platforms
  • Design robust, fault-tolerant bidirectional integration architectures
  • Implement APIs, webhooks, event consumers, and data transformation layers
  • Ensure data consistency, idempotency, and auditability across integration boundaries
  • Translate partner technical requirements into well-scoped engineering work
  • Collaborate with Card, Treasury, Onboarding, and Compliance engineers to deliver dependencies
  • Monitor integration health and lead incident response and post-mortems
  • Maintain thorough integration documentation including API contracts, runbooks, and change logs
  • Build and maintain test suites covering integration contracts and edge cases
  • Lead observability efforts for the integration layer including dashboards, alerting, and SLA tracking
