About the Role
You will own critical payment flows from initiation through routing, settlement tracking, and reconciliation. You will build partner integrations, backend services, and dashboard features; design for failure; instrument money flows; contribute to regulated controls; mentor engineers; and participate in on-call incident response.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of production backend systems experience
- Payments or fintech experience on a live payment or money path
- Expertise in TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience designing and operating REST APIs
- Data modelling and PostgreSQL query skills
- Knowledge of idempotency, retries, partial failures, ordering, and duplicate handling
- Experience integrating external partner APIs
- Experience with queues, jobs, or workflow engines
- Experience writing automated backend and integration tests
- Working proficiency with React and Next.js or similar
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming and low-level design patterns
Responsibilities
- Own backend payment flows across API and dashboard surfaces
- Build partner integrations for new payment corridors
- Design payment systems for idempotency, retries, exactly-once effects, and graceful degradation
- Contribute to safeguarding and transaction-monitoring controls with audit trails
- Build payment tracking, status, and reporting features
- Instrument payment success rates, stuck payments, partner latency, and error rates
- Shape payment flows and API contracts with Product and senior engineers
- Mentor L1 and L2 engineers
- Participate in on-call and turn post-mortems into durable fixes
