About the Role

You will perform precision mechanical work using a variety of tools and shop machines to repair, install, and maintain generation plant equipment. You will follow blueprints and procedures to machine, fabricate, and weld parts, maintain boilers and auxiliary equipment, keep detailed maintenance logs, follow safety and environmental rules, handle rigging and lifting operations, and coordinate with outside contractors during overhauls and mechanical installations.

Requirements

  • High school or vocational school diploma or equivalent with emphasis on mechanical skills, metalworking, and welding processes.
  • Four years of experience as a mechanic, machinist, or welder, preferably in a generation plant environment.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used to repair and maintain generation plant machines and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating principles of boilers and other power plant machinery.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding.
  • Ability to locate, correct, and adjust defects in complex mechanical equipment and perform skilled repairs and overhauls.
  • Ability to read and work from drawings, procedures, illustrations, charts, and sketches.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass respirator fit tests and use respiratory protective equipment or self-contained breathing apparatus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow blueprint sketches and procedures to perform precision machining and repair tasks such as drilling, tapping, lathe operations, milling, and surface grinding.
  • Identify mechanical design issues and recommend necessary modifications.
  • Maintain complete logs of time, materials, procedures, and other maintenance information.
  • Follow safety and environmental rules and implement safe working practices and hazard mitigation.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors during overhauls and mechanical installations.
  • Handle rigging and lifting equipment for safe handling of heavy machinery and materials.
  • Ensure maintenance equipment is kept in good repair and safe operating condition.
  • Maintain boilers and auxiliary equipment and make or document weld repairs if certified and assigned.
  • Operate and maintain shop machines and tools.
  • Perform metal fabrication and welding using appropriate fitting, preheat, postheat, and welding rods.
