About the Role

You will develop, implement, and evaluate AI and machine-learning methods for scientific discovery. You will design workflows integrating simulation, experimental data, domain knowledge, and high-performance computing, and incorporate scientific constraints, models, knowledge graphs, ontologies, and expert feedback into machine-learning systems.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience developing and applying high-performance computing algorithms to scientific and machine-learning models
  • Research experience with AI and machine-learning techniques
  • Complete all degree requirements before starting the appointment
  • Have received a PhD no more than five years before the application date
  • Obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification card or favorable Local Site Specific Only risk determination
  • Pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation
  • Submit three letters of reference

Responsibilities

  • Develop AI, machine-learning, and knowledge-guided learning algorithms for scientific discovery and DOE applications
  • Design scientific AI workflows integrating simulation, experimental data, domain knowledge, and high-performance computing
  • Develop methods that incorporate scientific constraints, conservation laws, mechanistic models, knowledge graphs, ontologies, and expert knowledge into machine-learning systems
  • Investigate scientific foundation models, surrogate models, and digital twins
