About the Role

You will contribute throughout the product design lifecycle for self-driving vehicles. You will design and integrate mechanical systems for external sensor suites, compute assemblies, and vehicle interiors; perform structural and thermal analysis; validate designs from components through integrated vehicles; and support sensor testing in demanding vehicle environments.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience designing hardware and shipping products
  • Experience in FEA/CAE
  • Experience with hardware reliability and testing
  • CNC, machining, metalworking, and welding experience
  • Experience with automotive repair and maintenance
  • Experience working with AV components including lidars, radars, and cameras
  • Experience designing, drawing, and prototyping custom harness cables
  • Familiarity with CAD, preferably SolidWorks, for 3D model design or modification
  • Ability to set up devices under test and execute test scripts
  • Ability to produce detailed test, maintenance, safety, and process documentation
  • Ability to design, fabricate, and assemble custom test fixtures

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical engineering development of Applied Vehicles
  • Contribute to mechanical designs for external sensor suites, compute assemblies, and vehicle interiors
  • Perform structural and thermal analysis of mechanical designs
  • Own system design, analysis, and validation from component through fully integrated vehicle levels
  • Design for scalability and manufacturability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure designs meet requirements
  • Support testing and evaluation of cameras, radars, and lidars
