Required and preferred rules are kept separate and reflect the wording in the original posting.

About the Role

You will own defined parts and sub-assemblies from concept through high-volume production with guidance from experienced engineers. You will design in CAD, build and iterate prototypes, conduct performance and durability testing, create production drawings, and support DFM, tooling, and first-article activities. You will also build fixtures, run tolerance studies, troubleshoot life tests, investigate returned units, and coordinate with engineering, vendors, contract manufacturers, and industrial design.

Requirements

  • Currently pursue a degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field, or demonstrate equivalent hands-on experience
  • Have designed and built parts or assemblies through internships, project teams, research, or personal projects
  • Understand high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, stamping, or metal injection molding
  • Understand tolerances and their effects on assemblies
  • Be familiar with engineering drawings and basic GD&T
  • Be proficient in SolidWorks and use CAD to build real hardware
  • Apply hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting skills
  • Diagnose possible design or manufacturing causes from failures
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced startup

Responsibilities

  • Design parts and sub-assemblies within a defined architecture and carry them through mass production
  • Build, test, and rapidly iterate prototypes
  • Run component-level performance, durability, and part-variability testing
  • Write and execute accelerated test plans
  • Create production-ready 2D drawings
  • Work with engineers, vendors, and contract manufacturers on DFM feedback, tooling reviews, and first-article inspection
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, firmware, software, and industrial design
  • Build test fixtures and run tolerance studies
  • Troubleshoot life tests and tear down returned units
  • Update drawings and support production-line design transfer
