Full Stack Robotics and AI Engineer
Astera Institute is an active nonprofit research institute and foundation that operates in-house neuroscience-informed AI research and funds, operates, and supports open-science programs and public goods.
About Astera Institute
Astera operates three divisions: Neuro-AI, Radial life-sciences research, and its Foundation. Its AI work pursues neuroscience-informed approaches to artificial general intelligence, while its foundation and Radial activities support open scientific infrastructure, datasets, research programs, and residencies.

About the Role
You will develop and evaluate vision and action models for robotic manipulation, then connect sensors, model inference, and robot commands. You will optimize deployment performance, implement responsive policy execution, diagnose failures across software and hardware, and create reusable, tested robot software.
Requirements
- Python
- Machine learning model training or fine-tuning
- PyTorch or a comparable framework
- Physical robot integration
- Coordinate frames and sensor calibration
- Action or control interfaces
- Software profiling and runtime optimization
- Systems debugging
- Technical collaboration
Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate vision and action models for robotic manipulation
- Connect sensors, model inference, and robot commands
- Optimize model deployment latency, memory use, and throughput
- Implement responsive policy execution
- Debug failures across models, robotics software, hardware, and physical motion
- Build logging, replay, and evaluation tools
- Package reusable robot software with interfaces, configurations, and tests
