About the Role

You will own technical outcomes for customer workloads, take ambiguous objectives from specification through production, and design evaluations and benchmarks. You will troubleshoot mission-critical failures, build deployment and evaluation tooling, contribute fixes and features, and coordinate multiple customer engagements.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of software engineering experience in large production systems
• Experience debugging production issues using logs, metrics, and traces
• Ability to own ambiguous technical problems
• Customer-facing technical communication
• Interest in AI inference and training
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
• Knowledge of infrastructure domains such as storage systems or networking
• Experience with distributed compute platforms such as Kubernetes, Slurm, or Ray
• Knowledge of LLM architectures and inference engines such as vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, or SGLang
• Experience with GPU workload optimization, post-training, SFT, RL, PyTorch, or JAX

Responsibilities

• Own customer technical outcomes for Baseten workloads
• Define specifications, success criteria, proofs of concept, and production implementations
• Design evaluations and benchmarks
• Optimize inference, improve models through post-training, or revise evaluations
• Triage mission-critical failures and own resolution
• Build tooling and automation for evaluation and deployment infrastructure
• Channel customer needs into the product roadmap
• Coordinate multiple customer engagements and stakeholders
