About the Role
You will lead observability, incident management, load testing, performance engineering, cloud cost and capacity, and rollout infrastructure. You will build metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and testing capabilities; establish SLOs; lead incident response; investigate bottlenecks; review production changes; coach and hire engineers; and measure reliability and performance outcomes.
Requirements
- Engineering management experience
- Experience leading and developing engineers
- Experience making prioritization and performance decisions
- Experience hiring and delivering through a team
- Experience building and operating distributed systems or reliability platforms
- Knowledge of deployment behavior, Kubernetes, telemetry, service dependencies, and recovery mechanisms
- Experience leading consequential migrations or incidents
- Experience using measurement to diagnose reliability or performance problems
- Ability to validate fixes under realistic conditions
- Ability to build cross-team capabilities and evaluate reliability, performance, engineering effort, and cost tradeoffs
Responsibilities
- Build and operate metrics, logs, traces, and alerting
- Help teams establish SLOs and use telemetry
- Own incident tooling and practices
- Coordinate cross-team incident response
- Turn incident reviews into engineering improvements
- Build and maintain load and failure testing capabilities
- Lead performance investigations and deliver improvements
- Review designs and production changes
- Debug difficult failure modes
- Coach engineers, develop technical leaders, manage performance, and hire
- Track rollout safety, recovery time, incidents, latency, throughput, test coverage, and cost and capacity outcomes
