About the Role
You will own platform technology strategy, architecture, roadmap, reliability, delivery, and business impact. You will build scalable shared infrastructure, decide which capabilities should be centralized, and guide major architectural trade-offs. You will oversee authentication, authorization, account controls, integrations, analytics infrastructure, backend services, and support for web and native applications. You will improve availability, latency, scalability, release stability, incident management, engineering velocity, and system resilience. You will prioritize initiatives by technical risk and business value, lead hiring and performance management, develop technical leaders, and introduce AI-assisted workflows throughout engineering, QA, analytics, and operations.
Requirements
- Experience as an Engineering Director, Head of Engineering, Head of Platform, VP Engineering, CTO, or comparable senior engineering leader
- Strong technical background with the ability to engage deeply in architecture and engineering decisions
- Experience building or operating complex platforms, shared services, or infrastructure used by multiple products or engineering functions
- Proven experience leading engineers and delivering complex cross-functional initiatives
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, high-load environments, reliability, scalability, incidents, and security
- Experience with authentication, authorization, integrations, identity, payments infrastructure, or other shared platform capabilities
- Strong product and business mindset
- Ability to prioritize according to business impact
- Experience working directly with senior product, business, and executive stakeholders
- Strong data-driven engineering and decision-making approach
- Hands-on experience with modern AI tools and agents
- Experience in fintech, payments, crypto, marketplaces, gaming, or another high-scale technology environment is advantageous
Responsibilities
- Own platform technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap
- Build scalable shared infrastructure for multiple products and engineering functions
- Determine which capabilities to centralize and which to retain within product functions
- Drive major architectural and technical decisions
- Identify scalability and architectural bottlenecks before they become critical
- Balance long-term platform investments with immediate product and commercial priorities
- Own reliability, availability, latency, scalability, and operational performance
- Define and improve SLAs, DORA metrics, engineering performance, and incident-management practices
- Improve release stability, engineering velocity, and system resilience
- Lead post-incident improvements and eliminate systemic reliability issues
- Maintain engineering standards without unnecessary bureaucracy
- Own shared authentication, authorization, registration, and 2FA infrastructure
- Develop account controls, user restrictions, and security mechanisms
- Own integrations and shared backend capabilities
- Develop shared analytics and event infrastructure
- Support common infrastructure across web and native applications
- Partner with Product, Design, Security, and engineering stakeholders on cross-company capabilities
- Prioritize engineering initiatives according to technical risk and business impact
- Assess how platform decisions affect revenue, conversion, customer experience, and product velocity
- Identify technical changes that unlock business results
- Balance priorities across multiple product functions
- Make trade-offs among speed, scalability, reliability, security, and business value
- Measure platform performance through technical metrics and company acceleration
- Lead and develop the platform engineering organization
- Own organizational structure, hiring, performance, priorities, and execution
