About the Role
You will lead Git and Gitaly Operations, Nonlinear Productivity, and Platform Staff. You will set technical standards, review distributed-systems designs and crisis plans, establish operating metrics, develop managers, and ensure reliable, measurable outcomes. You will decide which high-leverage initiatives Platform Staff owns, when work transfers to permanent teams, and engage directly with customers during crises when needed.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of GitLab development workflows and platform capabilities
- Hands-on experience designing and shipping distributed systems
- Experience running engineering operations, including production reliability and incident management, at scale
- Experience driving measurable engineering productivity improvements across multiple teams or organizations
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools
- People management experience across multiple managers or functions
- Ability to context-switch across infrastructure operations, developer productivity, and crisis response
- Experience making staffing decisions that keep high-leverage teams intentionally small and aligned
Responsibilities
- Own outcomes for Git and Gitaly Operations across Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS
- Hire and develop the Manager of Git and Gitaly Operations
- Own outcomes for Nonlinear Productivity and drive measurable metric movement
- Hire and develop the Manager of Nonlinear Productivity
- Build and oversee Platform Staff as a small senior team using AI-assisted tools
- Assess and prioritize work for Platform Staff, including team bootstrapping, specialized customer requests, and production crises
- Determine when stable work should transfer from Platform Staff to a permanent team
- Set technical standards by reviewing distributed-systems designs, friction-elimination fixes, and crisis-management plans
- Build operating rhythms and metrics that enable predictable outcomes
- Represent the functions to peer engineering stakeholders and engage directly with customers during crises
