Required and preferred rules are kept separate and reflect the wording in the original posting.

About the Role

You will set the controls, protection, and automation philosophy for islanded microgrids supporting AI data-center loads. You will direct control architecture, power-system studies, protection design, SCADA and OT systems, and HIL testing. You will carry the scope through commissioning, lead technical partners, build standards, and manage a small controls and protection team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of power-systems controls, protection, or automation engineering experience.
  • Experience with islanded, industrial, or microgrid power systems.
  • Protective relaying, coordination-study, and digital-relay settings expertise.
  • Experience with power management, governor and excitation coordination, and inverter controls.
  • Knowledge of EMT modeling, dynamic stability, short circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies.
  • SCADA, substation automation, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and OT cybersecurity knowledge.
  • Experience delivering controls and protection scopes through commissioning and energization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites and vendor facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Own microgrid control architecture, power management, dispatch, load sharing, and frequency and voltage regulation.
  • Define control philosophies and specifications for controllers, governors, AVRs, and BESS controls.
  • Direct dynamic modeling and verification of stability, controller interactions, and resonance risks.
  • Own protection philosophy, relaying schemes, coordination studies, arc-flash studies, and settings management.
  • Review and approve protection designs and relay settings.
  • Direct controller and protection hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Own generation automation, SCADA, substation automation, communications, and time synchronization architecture.
  • Set OT network and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Carry controls and protection scopes through design, testing, energization, and integrated systems testing.
  • Build standards and lead engineers, consultants, OEMs, and EPC partners.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Generous PTO and US federal holidays.
  • Flexible workplace.
  • Parental leave.
