About the Role

You will conduct a three-year doctoral project on implicit coupled partial differential equation systems for reduced multiscale and multiphysics nuclear-reactor models. You will investigate mathematical and physical properties, coupling effects, and implement analytical and numerical models and one-dimensional stationary PDE test problems.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree with a strong mathematics component or Master's degree in applied mathematics
  • Specialization in analysis, differential equations, and optimization
  • Numerical-methods skills
  • Experience with PDE systems, ideally multiphysics problems
  • Finite-element methods
  • FreeFEM
  • FEniCS
  • Python
  • C++

Responsibilities

  • Study coupled neutron, thermal, and thermohydraulic equations
  • Investigate mathematical and physical properties of reactor models
  • Analyse coupling effects in multiphysics systems
  • Implement multiscale and multiphysics analytical and numerical models
  • Develop toy models based on partial differential equation systems
  • Write and solve one-dimensional stationary PDE systems
