About the Role

You will lead scientific delivery for partner projects from initial scoping through results. You will apply simulation, machine learning, optimisation, data-driven methods, or experiments to solve materials-discovery problems. You will translate between experimental, computational, and machine-learning teams; design and validate discovery campaigns; maintain reliable data and workflows; communicate results to partners; and help improve platform tools through partner feedback.

Requirements

  • PhD in chemistry, materials science, physics, chemical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Hands-on expertise in atomistic simulation, experimental materials or chemistry, or materials or cheminformatics
  • Track record in at least one relevant application area
  • Python for data handling, analysis, automation, or modelling
  • Git version control
  • Ability to communicate with experimental and computational scientists and translate between them

Responsibilities

  • Lead partner projects from scoping through delivery
  • Write technical scopes defining objectives, deliverables, success criteria, and timelines
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for partners and internal teams
  • Apply and extend the platform using simulation, machine learning, optimisation, data-driven methods, or experiments
  • Design and steer agentic and closed-loop discovery campaigns with partner laboratories
  • Assess and validate models, simulations, and data against experiments
  • Translate platform recommendations into executable experimental plans
  • Maintain clean, structured, and consistent partner and workflow data
  • Collaborate with partner laboratories and visit sites at key project stages
  • Build and automate scalable, reliable platform workflows
  • Relay partner feedback to improve tools and workflows
  • Contribute to scientific direction and stay current with advances in the field
