About the Role
You will own a core mechanical subsystem from design through hand calculations, FEA, fabrication, assembly, and validation. You will design precision motion and structural systems, make first-principles trade-offs, work with manufacturing resources, and integrate your designs with controls, firmware, and software.
Requirements
- 5+ years designing deployed precision electromechanical systems
- Structural and precision-design expertise, including ball screws, rack-and-pinion systems, bearings, kinematic constraint, and tolerance stack-ups
- FEA and hand-calculation fluency
- Experience owning subsystems end to end in a fast-moving hardware company
- Hands-on machining experience
- Ability to work on-site in San Francisco five days per week, with six days during crunch time if needed
