About the Role
You will lead critical mechanical subsystems from requirements and architecture through detailed design, validation, tooling, and ramp. You will manage engineering tradeoffs and tolerance budgets, guide suppliers through qualification, investigate failures to root cause, and mentor engineers through design reviews and hands-on technical work.
Requirements
- Technical degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 5+ years of professional design experience on shipping high-volume products, or demonstrated equivalent capability
- Experience owning a subsystem shipped in volume
- Experience completing a full production ramp
- Deep knowledge of high-volume manufacturing, particularly injection molding
- Experience developing assembly tolerance and variation strategies
- Experience creating accelerated test plans correlated to field data
- Hands-on building, measurement, and debugging experience
- Ability to mentor engineers
- Comfort serving as an escalation point in a fast-paced startup
Responsibilities
- Own critical subsystems from requirements through production ramp
- Define and defend engineering requirements
- Manage tradeoffs across cost, mass, acoustics, serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability
- Own full-assembly tolerance budgets
- Determine when to use analysis, testing, or physical builds
- Drive suppliers through tooling kickoff, T1, T2, and process qualification
