About the Role
You will design, implement, and test strategies for coupling NeuralGCM with an ocean model and separating physics-based and learned parameterizations. You will publish and present results, contribute open-source code, collaborate with external partners, and mentor postdocs and interns.
Requirements
- Substantial experience building and deploying a relevant machine-learning application in a practical or academic research setting
- Fluency in Python and collaborative coding practices
- PhD in computer or computational science, applied mathematics/statistics, atmospheric science, or a related geophysical science
- At least one accepted conference paper or peer-reviewed first-authored publication making extensive use of machine learning
- Excellent communication skills
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test a strategy to couple NeuralGCM with an ocean model
- Design, implement, and test strategies that decompose physical parameterizations and constraints into physics-based and learned components
- Present results at relevant AI and climate-modeling conferences and in peer-reviewed publications
- Contribute to open-source code development, code reviews, design documents, and external collaborator interactions
- Mentor postdocs and interns
