About the Role
You will audit high-definition map datasets used by autonomous trucks, checking lane geometry, road boundaries, signage, connectivity, and other features against quality specifications and ground-truth sources. You will identify and document defects, escalate safety-critical issues, refine quality metrics and audit workflows, collaborate with vendors and engineering teams, and support map readiness reviews before launch.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
- 1–3 years of experience for QC Engineer I or 3–5 years for QC Engineer II in geospatial data quality control, map production, GIS analysis, or a related role
- Experience with geospatial data formats, including shapefiles, GeoJSON, and KML
- Experience with coordinate and projection systems
- Familiarity with GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS and/or LiDAR point-cloud viewers
- Ability to identify subtle spatial or geometric inconsistencies in large datasets
- Ability to define repeatable, data-driven quality-control processes
- Written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and vendor teams
Responsibilities
- Review HD map geospatial data against internal quality specifications and ground-truth sources
- Perform quality control on map features derived from LiDAR point clouds, imagery, and vehicle sensor data
- Identify, document, and triage map defects
- Escalate safety-critical issues to mapping and autonomy engineering teams
- Define and refine quality metrics, sampling strategies, and audit workflows
- Communicate quality standards and drive defect resolution with mapping vendors and internal teams
- Analyze recurring defect patterns and improve upstream map creation and annotation processes
- Maintain documentation of quality-control procedures, edge cases, and route-specific requirements
- Support readiness reviews for new lanes, corridors, and operational design domains before launch
