About the Role

You will develop and implement nonlinear and crystal-plasticity constitutive models in finite-element codes. You will create probabilistic lifing approaches using multiscale modeling, collaborate with researchers and industry partners, present results, publish findings, and contribute to proposal writing.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant field obtained within the past five years
  • Strong background in mechanical behavior of materials
  • Experience developing and implementing constitutive models in commercial and/or open-source finite-element software
  • Complete all degree requirements before starting the appointment
  • Submit two letters of reference
  • Qualification for export-controlled technology access without an export-control license
  • Obtain and maintain required identity credentials and pass a federal background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement nonlinear constitutive models in finite-element codes
  • Develop and implement crystal-plasticity models for additively manufactured alloys
  • Develop probabilistic lifing approaches using multiscale modeling
  • Present and report research results at workshops and conferences
  • Publish key findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Collaborate with computational scientists, experimentalists, engineers, and industry partners
  • Contribute to proposal writing
