About the Role
You will lead the compliance framework, strategy, and programs for the Bahamas. You will partner with product, trading, technology, operations, legal, and risk stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into practical controls. You will oversee compliance for product launches, customer onboarding, custody, market surveillance, outsourcing, and market expansion. You will manage regulatory engagement with the Securities Commission of The Bahamas, escalate material issues and emerging risks, provide compliance opinions, and deliver compliance training.
Requirements
- Minimum of 12–15 years of progressive experience in senior compliance leadership roles within financial services.
- Proven experience leading, building, and developing high-performing compliance teams in a regional or multi-jurisdictional capacity.
- Expert knowledge of the Bahamas regulatory landscape, including the Securities Commission of The Bahamas and the DARE Act.
- Experience managing regulatory relationships, examinations, and regulatory inquiries at a senior level.
- Understanding of market compliance, AML/CFT program management, economic sanctions compliance, and consumer protection regulations.
- Ability to provide strategic compliance guidance for business expansion, new product development, and technology-driven initiatives.
- Experience overseeing compliance functions in an offshore or international operating model.
- Crypto experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic compliance partner to product, trading, technology, and operations teams.
- Translate Bahamian regulatory requirements into scalable compliance controls.
- Embed compliance considerations into product design, customer onboarding, custody, market surveillance, and outsourcing arrangements.
- Provide strategic compliance guidance for new products and service launches.
- Develop and enhance the Bahamas compliance framework, strategy, and programs.
- Engage with the Securities Commission of The Bahamas and support regulatory submissions and examinations.
- Assess cross-border regulatory considerations and the impact of global standards on Bahamian operations.
- Lead regional compliance programs for Bahamas expansion and innovative financial products.
- Escalate material compliance issues, regulatory developments, and emerging risks to senior management and the Board when appropriate.
- Provide compliance opinions to support management decisions and regulatory engagement.
- Develop and deliver compliance training.
- Foster a compliance and risk culture aligned with SCB expectations.
