About the Role
You will establish the legal, business, operational, compliance, and data-security foundations of a new tax preparation firm. You will create standard operating procedures for intake, workpapers, reviews, e-filing, and client communication. You will partner with engineering and AI teams to design a human-in-the-loop tax return pipeline and define quality controls. During filing season, you will prepare, review, and sign individual tax returns, handle client communications, and incorporate insights into the AI pipeline. As the firm grows, you will take on leadership responsibilities.
Requirements
- Active EA or CPA credential in good standing
- Willingness to serve as the signing paid preparer and EFIN responsible official
- Full-cycle individual tax return experience, including 1040 returns, Schedule C, K-1s, and multi-state returns
- Working knowledge of cryptocurrency tax reporting, including capital gains and losses, cost basis methods, staking and mining income, and exchange data
- Fluency with modern AI tools, including Claude Code, Codex, and ChatGPT
- United States-based
Responsibilities
- Establish the firm's legal, business, and operational structure
- Serve as the responsible official on the EFIN application and signing paid preparer on client returns
- Lead compliance and regulatory implementation, including IRC Section 7216 consent flows, FTC Safeguards Rule requirements, state registrations, and data-security practices
- Create standard operating procedures for intake, workpapers, review standards, e-file procedures, and client communication
- Partner with engineering and AI teams to design the human-in-the-loop tax return pipeline
- Prepare, review, and sign individual tax returns from intake through e-file acceptance
- Handle client-facing communication and manage the client experience
- Feed tax-return insights back into the AI pipeline
- Grow into a leadership role as the firm scales
