About the Role

You will lead the design, architecture, and delivery of a modern payments platform that integrates fiat and digital assets. You will manage and mentor engineers and DevOps teams, define and implement scalable microservices and event-driven systems, and ensure secure, compliant, high-throughput payment processing. You will collaborate with product, compliance, and infrastructure stakeholders, drive architectural decisions, champion automation and operational excellence, and integrate emerging blockchain payment standards into production systems.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in payments engineering, including traditional finance and digital assets
• Proven experience managing senior engineering teams and building high-throughput, low-latency, mission-critical transaction systems
• Deep expertise in microservices-based architectures, including service mesh and event-driven systems
• Experience with event-driven platforms (e.g., Kafka, Axon, cloud-native pub/sub)
• Proficient in one or more backend languages (Java, Go, Python) and frameworks like Spring Boot
• Strong understanding of synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns (REST, gRPC, pub-sub)
• Architectural experience with cloud-native systems on AWS and/or GCP, including edge networking and API gateways
• Hands-on experience with databases and caching technologies including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, and Hazelcast
• Knowledge of data architecture patterns including data lakes, data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) and event-based ingestion pipelines
• Understanding of centralized and decentralized payment infrastructure and rails (ACH, SEPA, card networks, wallets, custody, stablecoins)
• Track record of delivering compliant, secure systems in regulated environments with understanding of KYC and AML controls
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to align and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Lead the buildout of a modern payments application from the ground up
• Manage and mentor engineers and DevOps teams delivering scalable and reliable payment capabilities
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, and Infrastructure to deliver enterprise-grade payment solutions
• Drive architecture and development across fiat and blockchain-based payment systems
• Instill an engineering culture focused on automation, ownership, security, and operational excellence
• Stay current on blockchain innovation and integrate emerging payment standards into the roadmap
