About the Role
You will join Elliptic's AI Platform team at its inception to help build the foundational infrastructure that powers how Elliptic's products think, reason, and act. You will be one of the first engineers working on a centralised AI platform whose purpose is to make AI development faster, safer, and more coherent across the business. You'll build the plumbing: pipelines, tooling, evaluation harnesses, observability layers, and integration patterns that domain teams rely on to ship with confidence. You don't need to have done all of this before; what matters is that you're genuinely energised by AI, think carefully about how systems fit together, and take pride in building things others can build on top of. The work you do in the first year will have a lasting shape on how AI is engineered at Elliptic.
Requirements
- Some hands-on experience building with LLMs or ML systems, whether in production, side projects, or an academic context
- Familiarity with AI protocols (MCP, A2A, ACP)
- Solid software engineering fundamentals including writing clean, testable, maintainable code
- A deep understanding of the context window and its importance in agentic workflows (context rot, compaction etc.)
- Exposure to at least one of: API integration and orchestration, data pipeline development, model evaluation or testing, observability and monitoring tooling
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain core components of Elliptic's AI platform including model serving infrastructure, prompt pipelines, evaluation harnesses, and integration patterns
- Support the development of agentic workflows including tooling, orchestration scaffolding, and reliability mechanisms
- Instrument AI systems for observability by tracing model calls, tracking token costs, and surfacing latency and quality signals
- Contribute to dashboards and alerting that keep production AI systems healthy
- Contribute to tooling and frameworks that govern how prompts are written, versioned, and tested across the organisation
- Work closely with engineers in domain teams such as Real-time Risk, Investigations, and Data Fabric to understand AI integration needs
- Help domain teams build on platform foundations rather than around them
- Keep pace with the evolving AI landscape and bring relevant developments to the team's attention
